Confusion has arisen on social media about the giraffes in Pakawi Park in Olmen after one of the security officers sent out a message that the animals are no longer allowed to be petted. According to the management, everything is the way it is because animal pets have always been banned.

The new savannah enclosure in Pakawi Park allows visitors to get up close to the giraffes. The animals like to be petted, but a message from one of the security officers recently appeared on social media saying that this is no longer allowed. The message has since been deleted.

“According to the Animal Welfare Act, pet giraffes are banned from 2019,” said the manager of Pakawi Park. “The rules dictate that the animal enclosure must be surrounded by a double balustrade or there must be security personnel. In Pakawi Park we work with security officers. So nothing has changed. I can confirm that we have been inspected recently. Our park was closed at the time ask us to reiterate to our visitors that it is not allowed to enter our giraffes.”(sg)
