New Delhi: The Padma Awards, one of the country’s highest civilian honors, were announced ahead of Republic Day. KS This time the award was given to six Malayalees including Chithra.
Multilingual singer S.P. Balasubramaniam and fiber-optic expert and energy strategist American-Indian scientist Narinder Singh Kapani were also awarded the Padma Vibhushan. The Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe (Public Affairs), a leading cardiologist in Karnataka and former Vice Chancellor of Manipal University, Dr. B.M. Hegde (medicine), Maulana Waheeduddin Khan, an Islamic scholar from Delhi, and BB, an archaeologist. Lal and sculptor Sudarshan Sahu from Odisha will also receive the Padma Vibhushan.
Singer KS The film stars Padma Bhushan, lyricist Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri and puppet artist KK from Shornur. Ramachandran Pulavar, Balan Putheri, who wrote many books on Hindu rituals, and Dr. Wayanad, who provided medical services to the adivasis. Dhananjay Divakar Sachdev, Sports Coach O.M. Madhavan Nambiar will also be awarded the Padma Shri. Bombay Jayashree, the favorite singer of Malayalees from Tamil Nadu, has also been awarded the Padma Shri.
Former political leaders Tarun Gogoi, Ram Vilas Paswan, Keshubhai Patel and Islamic scholar Kalbe Sadiq will be posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan. Writer Chandrasekhara Kampar, former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, former chairman of the Minorities Commission Tarlochan Singh and Maharashtra businessman Rajinikanth Shroff have also been honored with the Padma Bhushan.
