Libreville, Thursday, June 29, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – In a plea launched last Tuesday at the quadripartite summit on the crisis in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the President of the Gabonese Republic and President-in-Office of ECCAS invited Africa to a synergy of actions with a view to effective resolution of this crisis. “In his capacity as President-in-Office of ECCAS, the Head of State, His Excellency Ali Bongo Ondimba, took part in the Quadripartite Summit on the Coordination and Harmonization of Regional Responses to the Conflict in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
During this Summit, the following Presidents took part in the work led by the President of the Republic of Angola, host of the Summit and Champion of the African Union for peace and reconciliation.
These are the Presidents of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the President of the Union of the Comoros and President of the African Union, the President of the African Union Commission, the Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations and various other Heads of State, Former Heads of State and Ministers representing their countries or being Stakeholders in this dossier.
At the end of this Summit, all the Parties adopted the joint framework of the EAC, ECCAS, ICGLR, SADC, and the UN, for the Coordination of peace initiatives in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo under the auspices of the African Union.
This framework harmonizes the various initiatives of the Quadripartite Summit and is accompanied by a distribution of responsibilities and a fixed timetable for each of the Parties.
Furthermore, it was decided to institutionalize the Quadripartite Summit and the Summit welcomed the offer of the Republic of Burundi to host the second Quadripartite Summit in Bujumbura on a date to be determined later.
During his speech for the occasion, the President of the Republic, HE Ali Bongo Ondimba, President-in-Office of ECCAS, welcomed the holding of this first Quadripartite Summit organized under the auspices of the African Union.
He welcomed the various initiatives implemented to open up favorable prospects for the lasting pacification of the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
On behalf of ECCAS, the Head of State called for a pooling of efforts so that, faced with the multifaceted challenges of our Continent, the resolution of the situation of insecurity in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo is effective.
Finally, the President of the Gabonese Republic announced a contribution of 500,000 US dollars to the peace efforts in eastern DRC”.
