Pabriks: In case of sufficient reserves, non-sterile gloves must be purchased in a hurry – in Latvia

Although most reserves of personal protective equipment are over two months, in some positions it is not so much, because, for example, in a hurry to purchase non-sterile gloves, the consumption of which is quite high in the weekend, said in an interview with LTV this morning Minister of Defense Artis Pabriks (AP).

He said that the use of non-sterile gloves is high, because more than one million gloves are spent in a week, so they should be purchased as soon as possible.

“The only problem in this matter is the delivery time, because no emergency situation has been declared in Latvia and the procurement of gloves is organized according to all standard procedures, as well as following all recommendations indicated by the State Audit Office. Therefore, it is a time-consuming process months, “said the Minister.

He only added that in this matter it is necessary to take into account the fact that, unlike masks, non-sterile gloves are not produced in Latvia, so the seller must be sought outside Latvia.

Asked how much money such a purchase would require from the state budget, the Minister replied that the last purchase for gloves and masks required a little over 10 million euros.

It has already been reported that in the spring the National Defense Military Facilities and Procurement Center (VAMOIC), in cooperation with the National Armed Forces, took over the management of crisis-related stocks of personal protective equipment and disinfectants, including procurements centrally and the volume of goods specified in the list of needs.

In accordance with the regulations adopted by the government, after the end of the emergency situation on June 9, the procurement of reserves of personal protective equipment and medical devices for the needs of all state institutions continues to be performed by VAMOIC.
