The corona figures seem to confirm on Saturday morning what virologist Steven Van Gucht said on Friday: “The peak has been reached”. The numbers of new infections and hospital admissions are only increasing slightly, by 4 and 2 percent on a weekly basis, respectively. This is apparent from the preliminary figures of health institute Sciensano.

Between 24 and 30 November, each day was averaged 17.823 corona cases detected. That is 4 percent more than a week earlier, but slightly less than Friday’s seven-day average. This means that the growth in the number of infections appears to be slowing down further.

Since the start of the pandemic, our country has 1.827.467 infections registered.

When we get the daily figures When we look at it, we see that the number of new infections is now less on two days than the week before. On Monday, November 22, 25.574 infections, the highest figure since the start of the pandemic. Last Monday there were 25.107, which remains very strong.

Testing
There has never been so much testing for Covid-19 in our country. Between 24 and 30 November, daily average 120.040 tests declined, 7 percent more than the week before. For the first time, the milestone of an average of 120,000 tests per day has been reached. Wednesday 24 November were 141.937 people tested, a Belgian record since the outbreak of the corona virus. In total, since the start of the corona crisis over 25 million tests executed.

Positiviteitsratio
The positivity ratio is 16,3 percent, it reproduction number decreases slightly (-9 percent) and now amounts to 1. When the number is higher than 1, it means that the virus is spreading faster.

Hospital admissions
Between November 27 and December 3, daily averages 313,4 corona patients admitted to hospital. That’s a slight weekly increase of 2 percent, but less than Friday’s seven-day average. It is still well above the peak during the third wave. On April 2, there was an average of 275 admissions per day.

Tuesday there were 386 corona patients included. It has been since November 14 last year that there were so many. By then the peak of the second wave had already been reached.

In total there are currently 3.604 patients in Belgian hospitals (+3 percent), which is 104 fewer than Friday. In the departments intensive care the weekly increase of 18 percent is even higher. Lying there now 803 coronapatiënten.

The number of deaths rose sharply between 24 and 30 November compared to the seven days before (+27 percent), to 47,1 per day. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 27.167 deaths due to Covid-19 recorded. On Tuesday 30 November there were 59 deaths from corona. It’s been January 23 since there were that many.

Vaccinations
Across all age groups, 77 percent of all Belgians have now been vaccinated at least once (89 percent of adults). That means that 8.845.136 Belgians already have at least one first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19. 8.697.987 people are already complete vaccinated. That is 76 percent of the entire population (87 percent of adults). 1.903.959 people already got one third shot.
