Over 90 galleries brought together at Palexpo as part of artgenève

The international artgenève trade fair opened its doors on Thursday at Palexpo. During this ninth edition, the public will be able to discover the works presented by some 90 contemporary art galleries for four days.

Until Sunday, artgenève offers a large gathering of original institutional exhibitions and the most prestigious international galleries. Among the strong points, the LOOP Barcelona fair, a pioneer in video art, will reveal this aspect of contemporary creation which is still too little represented in the trade fair world through a dozen works.

Another highlight, artgenève / estates, dedicated to monumental works by historic artists, is dedicated this year to the Italian Mario Merz, representative of Arte Povera.

The thematic exhibition “Modules” brings together works from participating galleries around architecture. Among other things, it presents a historic pavilion by Jean Prouvé, originally intended to house the homeless after the Second World War.

Concert and conferences

Other events will punctuate the event, like artgenève / music, which aims to present concerts in legendary halls. An evening will take place Friday at the Victoria Hall in Geneva with a dozen performances by contemporary artists. Free entry.

The cycle of conferences “arts talks” will welcome personalities from the art world, including the former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin. He will take a look at contemporary art in times of crisis on Thursday, following the example of Zao Wou-Ki.

For this ninth edition, some 250 files have reached the organizers, testifying to the interest shown by international galleries in the event. Last year, artgenève attracted 25,000 visitors.
