Over 80% of Registered Voters in the U.S. Concerned About Democracy, New Poll Finds

A new poll by the Bipartisan Policy Center and Morning Consult, published exclusively for The Hill news portal, indicated that more than 80% of registered voters in the United States are concerned about the state of democracy in the United States.

The poll by Morning Consult and the Bipartisan Policy Center was conducted Aug. 21-24 among 1,959 registered voters. The margin of error was plus or minus 2 percentage points.

According to The Hill, 82% of voters expressed concern about democracy in the United States. In fact, 40% of those surveyed said they were “very worried.”. This sentiment is shared between Democratic Party voters and Republican Party voters, with 84% of voters in each party saying they are concerned about the state of democracy in the country.

Likewise, the survey shows that 59% of Americans do not have confidence that political parties are capable of reaching bipartisan agreements. 62% of Republicans lack confidence in this regard, compared to 50% of Democrats.

According to The Hill, These findings come as Congress prepares to return from recess next month and the possibility of a government shutdown looms.. Lawmakers must approve a federal budget by September 30. If they can’t agree to approve 11 of the 12 spending projects, the government will shut down.

In a report to clients on Sunday, Goldman Sachs warned that it now considers a government shutdown later this year “more likely than not” due to differences on spending issues and “possible complications arising from various political issues.”

The White House, in fact, asked Congress to approve a short-term measure to obtain financing and avoid a government shutdown.

Additionally, House Republicans are openly considering an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Sunday that an impeachment inquiry into the president was a “natural step” after the GOP investigation into the Biden family’s foreign business dealings.
