Over 50s discover online shopping by Corona | Money

In recent months, four out of ten people have bought more online than before, says real estate advisor Colliers International after surveying over 2,000 consumers. Clothing and shoes, personal care and books and magazines were particularly popular.

“Nearly 37% of Dutch people plan to order more products online in the future. In people over 50, that percentage is not much different. That is striking, because it is precisely those who previously bought little online, ”says Chris Lanting. “Because of the outbreak of the coronavirus, people do more shopping from home and ordering via the internet has also been definitively discovered by the elderly.”

According to the real estate advisor, this development does not bode well for the shopping streets. Colliers expects that one in five stores in medium-sized cities will be vacant in the short term due to online shopping. “Especially shops that sell books and magazines, household appliances, electronics and toys are too oversized.”
