More than eleven hundred Russians have been locked up in a large hospital in the city of Ufa in the Urals for more than two weeks. The hospital was locked on April 6 due to the corona epidemic. It turned out that 170 people in the building were infected with the virus.
Since then, six hundred patients and more than five hundred doctors and nurses have been unable to leave the hospital. No one was prepared for the long stay; most have children and parents at home that they normally take care of.
The decision for the lockdown was made after an elderly man who was hospitalized with pneumonia died on Sunday, April 5. Tests revealed that he had been infected with the corona virus. At least five doctors who had been around the man showed symptoms that could indicate an infection.
According to reports on the Internet, a few employees have fled the building, but the authorities deny this. The lockdown is expected to last until April 20. It is not clear whether that period will be extended.
Because there are too few protective materials in the hospital, many more people would now have lung complaints, which could indicate a corona infection. Testing would have shown that last week 170 people have been infected in the hospital, but these figures have not been confirmed.
