Ovechkin became the first Russian player to score 1,500 points in the NHL

Dylan Strome scored a double for the hosts (25′, 50′), Belarusian Alexey Protas (8′) and Russian Evgeniy Kuznetsov (38′) scored another goal each.

Tyler Seguin (16′), Mason Marchment (35′) and Roope Hinz (42′, 54′) scored for the visitors.

Washington captain Alexander Ovechkin took part in Strome’s second goal and chalked up an assist that gave him his 1,500th NHL point. Ovechkin became the first Russian player, the second European (after Jaromir Jagr) and the 16th hockey player in league history to reach this mark.

In total, during his NHL career, Alexander Ovechkin played 1,370 matches, in which he scored 827 goals and made 673 assists. In April of this year, Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby broke the 1,500-point mark in the NHL regular season. Ovechkin and Crosby are the only active players in the league to achieve this achievement.

“This is huge. Another indicator of his greatness and what he was able to achieve in this league,” Washington head coach Spencer Carbery commented on Ovechkin’s achievement.

However, the Washington captain extended his streak without scoring a goal to eight matches. In this match, the 38-year-old Russian spent 17 minutes 49 seconds on the ice, scored three shots on target, made one power move and missed the decisive shootout in the post-match series. However, Ovechkin was still recognized as the third star of the match.

The Capitals captain has gone eight straight games without scoring for the fifth time in his career. There are two games left before repeating the personal anti-record – from February to March 2017, Ovechkin did not score for ten matches.

Washington forward Evgeny Kuznetsov abandoned the lineup in the first meeting after returning. The 31-year-old Russian missed the previous meeting against Arizona (0:6) by the coach’s decision for a “psychological reboot.” For Kuznetsov, this was the 700th anniversary game in the NHL – he had 561 (170+391) scoring points.

Washington suffered its third defeat in a row and dropped to 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings. The capital’s next match will be on Sunday, December 10, at home against Rangers.
