Outdoor is OK, you know, but is it safe to exercise after the COVID-19 vaccine?

Jakarta

In DKI Jakarta, outdoor sports have started to be allowed. By the way, is it safe to do it after just getting COVID-19 vaccine?

Relaxation of rules regarding outdoor sports aka outdoor in DKI, it is stated in the Governor’s Decree No. 974 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Restrictions on Community Activities Level 4 Corona Virus Disease 2019. Outdoor sports are only limited to a maximum of 20.00 WIB.

The rules allow it. The next consideration is, is it safe or not to do it, especially for those who have just received the COVID-19 vaccine?

There are a few things that need to be taken into account to answer yes or no exercise after vaccine. Here’s a summary.

1. It can’t be that moment either

The first consideration, how long is the time lag between vaccination and exercise? If it’s instantaneous, of course it’s not allowed. Vaccination technical guidelines require a person to undergo 30 minutes of observation at the injection site to anticipate the emergence of Post-Immunization Adverse Events (AEFI).

2. Pay attention to possible side effects

Vaccination side effects do not always appear within 30 minutes of observation. Some people experience it a few hours afterward, or even the next day.

Generally in the form of complaints such as aches and drowsiness, while some others have a mild fever. If the complaint is quite disturbing, it is advisable to take a break and report immediately if the complaint does not subside.

However, if there are no complaints, or the complaints are quite mild and are not bothersome, light exercise for some people actually helps speed up recovery.

3. Process without compromise!

Various studies have shown that vaccination does not make a person 100 percent immune to infection. Transmission can still occur in someone who has been vaccinated, although the impact is mild.

The formation of the protective effect of vaccination also takes time, not instantaneously. Therefore, never feel immune just because you have been vaccinated 1-2 days before.

If you want to exercise outdoors, make sure you stay out of crowds and wear a mask when you have to interact or pass by other people.

Isn’t it troublesome, exercising while carrying a mask? Don’t just bring it, some athletes competing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics even still wear masks when competing. Read more HERE.

4. Listen to your body!

A cliché but one that should always be kept in mind when exercising is: listen to your body. Listen to your own body. If you feel uncomfortable, there is no prohibition against not exercising for a while.

Wherever, rest or rest is an inseparable part of sport.
