Praha/Washington When the American Perseverance vehicle landed on the dusty surface of Mars on the evening of February 18, thousands of people around the Earth were pinned to television screens or computer monitors and marveled at how far human progress had come: the first shots from a location 471 million kilometers away arrived in a matter of minutes. Only Petr Brož, the only Czech expert on the geology of Mars, saw nothing.
