How does a person from a poor family conquer the whole world with his talent and charm about him? What did he have to overcome to play in Moscow in 1987, for which he was adored by all of Italy?

He was born into a poor Milanese family. At the age of 12 he dropped out of school and got a job in a watchmaking workshop. Watch repair is still one of his favorite hobbies.
As a young man he absorbed rock and roll records. His idol is the eccentric Jerry Lee Lewis, whose stage style Adriano masterfully imitates. His sister takes a photo of him as the musician, submits the photo to a doppelgänger contest—and good luck! – Celentano wins. The prize money turns out to be quite apt. Adriano created his own band and started writing songs himself.
At the age of 24 he participated in the famous Sanremo music festival. She takes second place only because she has her back to the stage and the audience. By the way, this dance gesture will become her “trick”.
“24mila baci” is recognized as the best Italian song of the decade. The singer broke the contracts and started releasing music only on his own label ‘Clan Celentano’.
The ugly adored
He records new compositions, acts in films, tries himself as a director. His debut “La superrapina a Milano” stands out: a mixture of burlesque, comedy and an adventurous yellow about corrupt thieves who decide to hide in a monastery. Gennady Poloka even mentioned the end of this film in his film “Intervention”.
But his main cinematic success was the collaboration with the director duo Castellano and Pipolo: Adriano participated in eight of their projects. And in each he appears in a new image. And the audience fell madly in love with her Elia Codogno from “The Taming of the Shrew” – a kind of “reverse retelling” of Shakespeare’s play, where the fatal beauty (Ornella Muti) is trying to re-educate a cruel misogynist.
Films with Celentano enjoyed extreme popularity in the USSR. Soviet censorship treated them leniently. These comedies satirically showed “Western rot” and are devoid of any political overtones, and Adriano’s incredible male charm emanates from every frame – he is perfect for the image of the “lovable ugly man”. His bright, but completely non-standard appearance is complemented by incredible charm.
Family man, fan, father and grandfather
At the same time, the artist’s personal life is generally devoid of a shade of scandal. He met his wife, actress Claudia Mori, on set. They get married secretly, without attracting the attention of either fans or journalists. An ideal Italian, a faithful family man who adores children and then grandchildren: this is Celentano outside the image of him on the screen.
He is the idol of all of Italy, he respects traditions: he is a fan of his compatriots, of Inter in Milan, he likes to cook and play tennis. But there are also some peculiarities: for example Adriano suffers from aerophobia and generally doesn’t fly on planes, which is why he often refuses to travel.
Success in the USSR
However, he flew to the USSR in 1987, overcoming fear. There are two sold-out concerts at the Stadio Olimpico. Celentano’s concert was filmed especially for television, and the performer secured the status of one of the most beloved foreign stars in our country. However, this has been the case for 20 years, since the film “Seraphim” with his participation received an award at the Moscow Film Festival.
Celentano has not acted in cinema for a long time. He says he’s not offered good scripts. The only director I would act with today is Quentin Tarantino.
Unstoppable
But in music he is unstoppable: the album “Per Semper” becomes an international hit. And the song “Confess” again brings him to the top of the world charts. The real pearl of his career is the album “Sleep, my love, the situation is not right”. In addition to the extraordinary music and arrangements, there is also a sense of current affairs: from environmental issues to touching childhood nostalgia.
Continue to be active. He released a fantastic animated film “Adrian”-about a watchmaker who faces a series of problems assigned to him. The image of the protagonist and his companion was copied by Celentano himself and Claudia Mori, the soundtrack is Adriano’s songs. He makes a series of albums with the singer Mina Mazzini, another star of the 70s.
Periodically appears on television. Sometimes he organizes big concerts, but not far from home and family, in Milan.
