As the portal wPolityce.pl found out, Deputy Minister of Climate, Jacek Ozdoba, will present a bill tomorrow changing, among others, regulations on waste segregation by municipalities. Penalties for littering public spaces will also be tightened.
Three factions instead of five
The new regulations are primarily intended to support local governments in the field of waste management. The main changes will be in factionalism. The local government, which will meet the relevant technical and organizational criteria, will be able to withdraw from segregating rainfall by residents in five fractions, e.g. for three. It is also intended to reduce the costs incurred by local governments when managing waste.
Legislative changes were developed together with local government officials. They are aimed at optimizing the costs of municipalities, increasing the freedom to decide how waste management looks like in a given municipality
– says the portal wPolityce.pl Jacek Ozdoba.
The deputy minister of climate reminds that the EU directive gives the possibility of waiving the selective collection of waste at the source, i.e. for residents, provided that the local government has technical and organizational possibilities, thanks to which it can achieve the same effect at a later stage of segregation.
Higher penalties for littering public places
Other changes include tightening the provisions on penalties for littering public places – streets, beaches or fields. The fine will be increased to 5,000. zł. The Penal Code will also introduce a new provision penalizing the abandonment of hazardous waste. This offense will be punishable by up to 8 years’ imprisonment.
We are stepping up the fight against pollution of public spaces. Today the penalties are far too low
– comments the deputy minister of climate.
