The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, nicknamed the Met, is the most important art museum in the United States and one of the largest in the world by area with its annex The Cloisters. Initiated by artists and businessmen, it will be opened in 1882 and directed by a railway company boss John Taylor Johnston.
