Regarding the withdrawal of Todor Dzhikov from the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber (BAK), who is a member but not the chairman of the National Association of Potato Producers, Iliya Prodanov explained that he participated in the Friday meeting with the Prime Minister without taking a stand. “At some point after the meeting, Mr. Dzhikov said he was going out to protest.”
“These people who head the associations that want the resignation of the minister have been the same for 20 years. They don’t want a Trade Organization Act, they don’t want a Food Trade Act, and these same people put out an official statement to the Department of Agriculture not to check for virtual animals. The public should know this,” emphasized the chairman of the NAZ. He added that it is about people who are used to managing the ministry and staffing the department.
On the topic of the agreement, Prodanov said that there is a retreat from the financial demands at the expense of the legislative ones. “We (in NAZ) have 22 organizations, each with about 150 people. They all backed down in favor of the legislation,” he explained.
The chairman of the association of grain producers has promised another protest if there is a delay in the development and adoption of the legislative changes.
He added that the Law on Food Trade also protects animal breeders, since the draft stipulates a deadline for the payment of raw milk up to a month at the latest. According to him, one of the reasons for the requested ministerial resignation is to clear the system of virtual animals, which actually reduce the aid for the real ones.
