‘Other boys’ brilliantly lit up at ‘Eurovision’ opening ceremony in Turin Press release

May 9, 2022

The information was prepared by Edgars Bāliņš, Communication Manager of the Project “Eurovision Song Contest 2022”.

The group “Other Boys” took part in the opening ceremony of the Eurovision Song Contest on Sunday, May 9, at the Venetian Palace in Turin. The band will represent Latvia in the 66th International Eurovision Song Contest tomorrow.

The Latvian delegation boarded the turquoise carpet at approximately 5 pm Latvian time, followed by several hours of interviews with the media in the member states. A total of 40 delegations attended the opening ceremony.

Guntars Gulbiņš, the head of the Latvian delegation, praised the opening ceremony: “For the first time, the Latvian delegation received so much attention. The group” Other Boys “was interviewed for four hours and such media interest cannot be gained during rehearsals or behind the scenes. In the media of other countries, it is possible to play in favor of the audience in the vote, so this day was especially important for Latvia in the context of Tuesday’s semi-final.

Jānis Pētersons, the group’s soloist, said similarly about the past day: “This ceremony is not only a huge party in beautiful costumes, it is a great opportunity to use after the full program and we are glad that we did it. Interviews in English, conversations with journalists, other participants’ song singing – these are things we know and do with great pleasure and it is seen that the foreign media appreciates it.

Although the participants participated in the opening event without face masks, during the trials the participants follow epidemiological safety regulations and use face masks in some areas, as well as perform Covid-19 tests every 72 hours. A positive case of Covid-19 is known to have been detected in the Portuguese delegation, resulting in extreme caution.

The band “Citi zēni” with the song “Eat Your Salad” became the winners of the Latvian Television Song Contest “Supernova 2022” live on February 12, gaining the opportunity to represent Latvia at the 66th International Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Italy. The group will perform in the first semi-final on May 10. Albania, Switzerland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Denmark, Armenia, Austria, Croatia, Iceland and Greece will also take part. The second semi-final of Eurovision will take place on May 12, the final – on May 14.

The group “Other Boys” consists of Jānis Pētersons (vocals), Dagnis Roziņš (vocals and saxophone), Reinis Višķeris (keyboards), Krišjānis Ozols (guitar), Roberts Memmēns (bass) and Toms Kagainis (drums).
