Oscar Núñez’s lawyer affirms that the Prosecutor’s Office accused him without specifying what he did

Eduardo Franco, one of Oscar Nuñez’s lawyers, told El Observador Radio that the Public Ministry does not provide a detailed description that specifies the conduct or omission of his defendant. “We do not know what he did or did not do, because it is not detailed in the accusation, so we cannot defend ourselves,” he explained.

He highlighted the statement of the witnesses who attended yesterday, such as Blásida Giménez, former Secretary of Education of the Interior, who reported that the money he withdrew was directed to public institutions, either for repairs or for activities related to the Bicentennial.

He also referred to the witness Wilfrido Alvarenga, former head of the Office of the Indigenous Secretariat of the Interior, who explained that the money from the checks he made were destined for indigenous communities, either due to flooding or sanitary issues and provision of food.

He argued that several of the checks were cashed by managers, because there were no branches of the BNF and Familiar banks in the department, so they were generally made in Mariano Roque Alonso or Asunción.

Regarding the call to attention that he received from the Court during the course of the trial the day before, he explained that it was because the witness Alvarenga apparently did not understand a question and when he tried to cross-examine, he was warned by the referee.

The question was whether Governor Núñez was present when he received the check, to which the witness said yes, however he previously told that the latter had entrusted him to cash the check because he was isolated somewhere in the department, cause of a flood. “Then I said ‘thank you very much’ and when I was going to ask him again, the president of the Court caught my attention,” he added.
