Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this season’s Academy Awards ceremony is particularly long.

Chinese authorities have banned local media from broadcasting the Academy Awards. On this with reference to its own sources on Wednesday, March 17, reports Bloomberg.

The decision was made due to the participation in the film award of the documentary Do Not Split by journalist Anders Hammer about the protests in Hong Kong in 2019. It was nominated for Best Documentary Short.

In addition, sources have reported concerns about the political stance of Chinese filmmaker Chloe Zhao, who is also nominated for the award.

The coverage of the ceremony will only focus on those awards that do not carry any political context.

The winners of the film awards will be announced on April 25th. Residents of 225 countries will be able to see their awards live.

It was previously reported that Ukrainian films were not included in the list of nominees for the prize.
