Unfortunately, this concept ceased to exist in 2009. However, as it turns out, Orient Express will soon get a new lease of life. This time in the form of the largest sailing ship in the world – Orient Express Silenseas.

The Orient Express covered the 2,880 km route from Paris to Constantinople, providing passengers, who were mainly very wealthy people – aristocrats, businessmen and diplomats, with unique experiences in richly decorated carriages. The Orient Express set off on its first journey in October 1883. Over time, its route began to be shortened, and finally the courses under this name were suspended in 2009.

Orient Express will gain a second life

Soon, the Orient Express in a completely new version may set off on a journey again, once again becoming synonymous with comfort and wealth. The difference, however, is that it will not move on the tracks, but on the seas. Nearly 140 years after the first journey of the iconic train, the Orient Express Silenseas saw the light of day, a project of the world’s largest sailing ship. It is described as a revolution in shipping and “an ambitious venture that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible”

Orient Express Silenseas is being built thanks to the cooperation of two French entities – Accor, a world leader in the hotel industry, and Chantiers de l’Atlantique, a leading shipbuilding company. Its concept was born in 2018, and the creators announce that the sailing ship will make its first voyage in 2026. It will be 220 meters long, and on board there will be 54 apartments with an average area of ​​70 square meters, including the so-called . presidential suite with an area of ​​​​1415 square meters.

Orient Express Silenseas travelers will be able to take advantage of the rich recreational and entertainment facilities. Of course, everything will drip with luxury and emphasize the status of the place they are in, especially since the sailing ship “will celebrate the Art of Travel à la Orient Express: the quintessence of luxury, absolute comfort and dreams.” There will be two swimming pools on board (one of them will be a sports pool), two restaurants and a speakeasy bar. Those thirsty for entertainment will be able to go to shows at the Amphitheater-Cabaret, and those hungry for rest – for SPA treatments or meditation sessions.

The luxury sailing ship will be packed with the latest technological solutions. Particularly noteworthy is the construction referred to as “SolidSail”. As the creators explain: “three rigid sails with an area of ​​1,500 meters each will be raised on a balestron sail with three tilting masts, reaching over 100 meters in height, capable of providing up to 100 percent of propulsion in appropriate weather conditions.” This solution will allow the creation of a hybrid drive. The sailing ship will use wind energy and a modern engine powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Usage is also planned ecological hydrogenprovided that this technology is approved for use in passenger ships.
