Ori Dev thinks it would be “extremely difficult” to run the 60fps sequel on the switch

One of the surprise announcements of 2019 was when we found out that Xbox Game Studios would release Ori and the blind forest on the Switch eShop. The game made its debut on the hybrid system a month after its announcement and since then, we wonder if we will ever have the chance to play more, Ori and the will of the locks.

Earlier this week, the game developer – Moon Studios – did an AMA on the PC game routine and a fan asked him if he was considering bringing Ori’s second adventure to the Switch. Chief engineer Gennadiy Korol responded by saying that while the team loves the system, they have nothing to share yet:

We love the Switch! But for now, we have nothing to share regarding Ori and the Will of the Wisps port. If that should happen, I can tell you that it would be extremely difficult to make it work at 60 frames per second, that’s for sure!

If a port were to go ahead, it looks like the team would like it to match the original Ori game on the Switch, which was running at 60fps due to all the optimizations. This could be a real challenge, given that the sequel even had performance issues on Xbox.

So – that’s it, according to Moon Studios, there is nothing to share about a potential port. Keep in mind that the initial release on Xbox, Xbox Game Pass and PC only took place in March, so Moon Studios is still focused on this and another unexpected project that will revolutionize the ARPG genre.
