Orgel Joke is back home after a month in hospital, she says in conversation with RTL Boulevard. The 73-year-old from Vlaardingen was admitted because of a rare clotting disorder. She is now being treated for this.
“It’s wonderful to be back in my own environment after four weeks in a small room,” says Orgel Joke. “With the help and love of friends, family and acquaintances. I hope to get better soon, but I still have a long way to go. I still have to take it easy.”
Joke Meijer, as the organ player is actually called, hopes that she can get out of bed now and then to “make music for fifteen minutes”. “Because that’s what I love to do most.”
Meijer grew into a hit on social media at the start of the corona crisis. On Instagram, where she has more than 40,000 followers, she posted countless videos in which she simply plays songs on her keyboard. She says she did this to cheer people up in corona time.
