REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Oppo A53 smartphone exploded when it was in the pocket of a middle-aged resident in India. The victim worked as a driver.
He reports that he always charges his phone with the factory default charger and only uses it for basic functions like making calls and surfing the internet.
Reported from Phone Arena, Tuesday (8/6), the video taken by the male friend shows official documents proving that the phone was purchased directly from Oppo in August 2020, last month. Naturally, the phone is still under warranty, as the docs show.
The cell phone suddenly exploded in the man’s pocket while he was doing his daily work. The battery literally ripped not only the entire aluminum back of the phone, but both men’s legs as well.
Almost nothing is left of the phone. The back is torn and charred beyond recognition, up to the top third of the device.
Oppo has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
