“Oppenheimer” top contender at the Oscars with 13 nominations, “Barbie” has 8

Just like at the Golden Globes 2 weeks ago, Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” has a chance to win the most important Oscars. The members of the Academy clearly appreciated the story about the development of the atomic bomb and nominated the film in 13 categories, just shy of a record.

Actors Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt have both been nominated for an Oscar for the first time, for their roles as brilliant scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his wife Katherine Oppenheimer.

“Poor things” by director Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Emma Stone, also scored well at the Academy. The film has been nominated for a total of 11 awards. Completely justified, says film expert Lieven Van Gils, who calls Emma Stone’s performance unparalleled. The film has been shown in Belgian theaters since last Wednesday.
