Opera Ball 2023: An Austrian Folk Festival? The best tweets about the Opera Ball

To the oyster bar or rather to the sausage stand? Visitors to the Vienna Opera Ball had to contend with many a luxury problem on Thursday evening (you can read all the details here). For the rest of Austria, however, it was relatively clear: the opera ball program is best done with numerous tweets and memes.

Opera Ball 2023: What Twitter thinks of Nylund’s dress

As with every opera ball, special attention was paid yesterday to the choice of clothing for the guests. The Twitter community paid particular attention to the outfit worn by opera singer Camilla Nylund.

Lugner’s star guest Jane Fonda has already excited the Twitter community more, even if it was less about the choice of clothes.

The fact that she was invited by Richard Lugner to accompany him to the opera ball still causes headaches for some Twitter users.

Opera Ball moderation: “I wish Alfons Haider back”

In addition to Jane Fonda and Camilla Nylund, the new moderation quintet made up of Mirjam Weichselbraun, Andi Knoll, Tarek Leitner, Nadja Bernhard and Teresa Vogl also attracted attention. The Twitter community still has to get used to the fact that ex-moderator Alfons Haider is no longer leading the Opera Ball after 24 years.

Climate protest at the Opera Ball: “You dance, we burn”

The only scandal of the evening was caused by climate activist Lena Schilling (“Fridays For Future”, “Lobau Stays”), who, together with colleague Daniel Shams, drew attention to climate change on the red carpet and carried a banner with the words “You dance, we burn ‘ pointed at the camera.

Schilling appeared accompanied by actor Michael Ostrowski, who supported the protest. When asked by presenter Tarek Leitner, who seemed to have a little trouble finding a name, that many messages were sent out in the evening, he held a scarf with the inscription “Power to the People” in front of the camera. He was celebrated for this by some Twitter users.
