Huawei Technologies announced a royalty rate for the use of 5G mobile technology for the first time in an effort to increase transparency.
Launch Reuters, Tuesday (16/3/2021), Head of IP HuaweiJason Ding said the company expects to receive US $ 1.3 billion (around Rp.18.8 trillion) in revenue from the 5G mobile patent license in 2019-2021.
“For each cellphone using Huawei’s 5G technology that is functioning, the company will receive up to 2.5 royalties dollar US (about Rp36 thousand), “said Ding.

Together with its rivals – Samsung, Nokia, Ericsson and Qualcomm – Huawei is one of the leaders in patents 5G; although studies of market leaders have shown mixed results.
Huawei itself recorded positive growth in 2020 revenue and net profit despite being included in the United States Department of Commerce’s Black List. Huawei CEO and Founder Ren Zhengfei said, “The company will continue to see a significant level of trust from customers.”
However, Huawei’s smartphone business remains under intense pressure due to the US ban. Because Huawei’s consumer business contributed 54.4% of the company’s revenue in 2019.
In the network business, Huawei holds more than 100,000 active patents in more than 40 thousand family patents globally, according to company claims.
Its total research and development investment reached 131.7 billion yuan in 2019.
