In an open letter, lawyer Christian Clement, who represents one of the Reuzegom members, calls for peace and serenity in the file. “The pendulum has now gone a long way with accompanying panic reactions and announced revenge actions. The peace and serenity that such a dramatic case like this needs is a necessity, ”says lawyer Clement.

The file on the fatal baptism ritual with engineering student Sanda Dia in December 2018 has already received a lot of attention. On Friday it was decided to suspend the proceedings in Hasselt regarding the referral of eighteen members to the court, because five petitions for additional investigation had been submitted. This happens in several criminal investigations.
Attorney Christian Clement also filed a petition. He represents the interests of JV, one of the freshman club members who attended the baptism. The previous year he had participated in baptism himself.
“Call for truth is justified”
“The dramatic way in which Sanda Dia was killed is unreal. It is rightly perceived as unacceptable. My client has also been struggling continuously since that December evening with the unbearable meaninglessness of his death. The call for justice and the full truth, however painful, from Sanda Dia’s family and friends is justified. What is important in this case is on the one hand the search for the how and why of the ever increasing brutality of the former student club and its baptismal ritual and on the other hand the will to be part of it anyway, “said the lawyer.
Counsel filed a request for a search for the truth. Attorney Clement also added that this procedure is difficult for his client and for the rest of his family.
