Opel has unveiled the new generation Astra hatchback. According to the press service of the German brand, orders for the car in Europe will begin to be accepted this fall. Customers will receive the first cars early next year.
The manufacturer positions the Astra as a competitor to the Volkswagen Golf.
After a change of generations, the model moved to the new EMP2 platform (the same one used by the Peugeot 308) and slightly increased its size compared to its predecessor. This modular chassis allows the use of both traditional internal combustion engines and electrified drives.

The exterior of the hatchback is made in accordance with the new corporate style of Opel Vizor, a distinctive feature of which is the narrow LED front optics, visually combined with the radiator grille. This design language was demonstrated for the first time at the GT X concept, which was introduced in 2018.
The volume of the luggage compartment is 422 liters. New Nappa leather upholstery seats have been installed in the sixth-generation Astra cab, as well as a digital panel called the Pure Panel, consisting of two displays: a virtual “instrument cluster” and a touchscreen display for the infotainment system. This solution has already been demonstrated on the Mokka crossover.
The traditional gear lever in the car has been replaced by a miniature joystick. Adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, head-up display, universal camera, blind spot monitoring and lane keeping function are available to the driver.
The engine line-up of the new Opel Astra includes 1.2-liter “turbo-threes” with 110 and 130 horsepower. According to unofficial data, the first engine works only with a six-speed manual transmission, while the more powerful unit can also work with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The diesel line is represented by a 1.5-liter engine that produces 130 horsepower.

It will also be possible to purchase the car in two hybrid versions. Details about them have not yet been announced. So far, the company has only said that the power of one of them will be 225 horsepower. In the future, the appearance of a fully electric version of the 6th generation Opel Astra is not excluded.
In addition to the hatchback, the model will definitely include a station wagon, which will receive a prefix in the name Sports Tourer.
