Opel has declassified the design of the new Astra

Opel has published a series of teaser images of the new generation of its popular Astra hatchback. The premiere of the car should take place in the near future. According to Motor1, production of new items should begin by the end of the year.

“The future Astra will reveal an exciting new chapter in the 30-year history of our compact model,” said Michael Loscheler, CEO of Opel. “We are confident that the next generation Opel Astra will make an extremely strong impression and attract many new customers to the brand.”

The new generation of the hit Astra will become the first offer in the entire history of the model, which will be available in an electrified version.

Judging by the images, the car will receive significant design changes. The exterior of the car will be made in accordance with the new corporate style of Opel Vizor, a distinctive feature of which is the narrow LED front optics, visually combined with the radiator grille. This design language was demonstrated for the first time at the GT X concept, which was introduced in 2018.

In addition, the new Opel Astra will be equipped with a digital front panel called the Pure Panel, consisting of two displays: a virtual “instrument cluster” and a touchscreen display of the infotainment system. The same solution has already been demonstrated on the Mokka crossover.

The car will be built on the EMP2 platform. The next-generation Peugeot 308 received the same chassis. Later, the new Opel Astra station wagon, which will receive a prefix in the name Sports Tourer, should debut. According to unofficial data, the model will have two hybrid versions at once: with front-wheel drive and modification of all wheels with a total capacity of about 300 horsepower.
