Oommen Chandy, Chairman, Election Oversight Committee; Ten members including Chennithala and Mullappally

Thiruvananthapuram: Oommen Chandy has been appointed as the chairman of the KPCC election committee which is being formed with the aim of winning the assembly elections. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran, Kerala’s in-charge Tariq Anwar, KC Venugopal, K Muraleedharan, K Sudhakaran, Kodikunnil Suresh and VM Sudheeran are also on the committee. The committee consists of ten members.

It is learned that the central leadership will be actively involved in the election campaign. AK Antony is in charge of Kerala. After the announcement of the election, AK Antony will be in Kerala full time. The discussion on the candidates will take place after the start of the Kerala Yatra. It is certain that there will be a strong intervention of the High Command in the selection of candidates.

It was decided that Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala would contest in the Assembly elections. The Delhi bureau reported that the High Command had given the green light to Oommen Chandy’s suggestion to contest as well. With this, the High Command is not yet deciding who will be the Chief Minister. The Congress and the UDF will not be fielding a Chief Ministerial candidate in the Assembly elections. High Command sources told Asianet News that the decision on who will be the Chief Minister will be taken only after the Assembly elections.

The A-I groups submit to the High Command’s decision to reorganize the DCC. The decision is ahead of the assembly elections. The group leaders agreed with the High Command’s position that those who are not functional should be replaced. According to a report submitted to the High Command by the state unit of the KPCC committee, the Congress is likely to win 60 of the 87 seats contested.
