The only living white giraffe has been equipped with a GPS device since Tuesday. Conservationists in Kenya hope to protect the unique animal from poachers.

The male has leucism, an abnormality that leads to reduced pigmentation. In March, the other two remaining white giraffes, a female animal and her calf, were killed by poachers. The three giraffes lived together in the Ishaqbini Hirola Community Conservancy, in Garissa County, Kenya. The GPS will provide hourly updates on the location of the animal.
The area is also home to the endangered Somali giraffe and the hirola antelope. That species is critically endangered – there are around 450 hirolas in the wild.
