Hehe, indeed. That happened to me regularly at my previous employer, 2 locations, 15 minutes cycling apart and then having your print job of 200 pages come out of the wrong printer because it was last used yesterday (when you were at the other location). Argh!

That could undoubtedly be more convenient, but our ICNeener (that’s what we called him, because he thought everything was too much trouble), thought this was a great solution. He only worked at one location and was never at the other, so it wasn’t an issue himself. VPN to work at home was also an old-fashioned solution, everything had to be in the cloud. He didn’t care that that is not so handy with CAD models, because you guessed it: he did nothing with it. In the end, the engineering department set up a NAS, but I was already gone by then.

I now work at a company with ‘Follow Me’ and I think it’s really brilliant. The only drawback is that you have to physically walk to the printer to start your job, which takes a little bit of time compared to the old-fashioned sending your job to the nearest printer and sitting at your workplace, because you hear that it is still printing . The advantage (and the main reason it was introduced) is that we save hundreds of thousands of unnecessary prints, because you often realize just after sending the job that it should have been in color or single-sided, or whatever.
