Iga Świątek (1. WTA) will play the first match during the tournament in Dubai on Wednesday. The day before, she had attended a press conference and was taken completely by surprise by one question. And it was asked by an 11-year-old girl. The tennis player didn’t know what to answer at first.
Iga Świątek started the new season with a successful United Cup, where together with our other tennis players she reached the semi-finals. She ended her participation in the Australian Open unexpectedly in the fourth round. On Saturday, she won her first trophy of the year, defending the title she won last year in Doha, and on her way to her 12th career tournament victory, she broke the record of the legendary Chris Evert. Now the Polish woman will take part in the competition on the courts in Dubai.

Just before the start of the competition in the United Arab Emirates, the leader of the world ranking took part in a press conference. At one point, 11-year-old young reporter Sarah Bachnakova from a local school in Dubai appeared at the microphone. She asked the representative of Poland a difficult question. – If you had a conversation with your younger self about your career, what would you tell yourself? she asked. Iga Świątek looked completely surprised.
After a while, however, the tennis player answered the question. – I would definitely tell myself that anything is possible and that I can achieve more than what I dream of. I would give myself some inspiration because when I was younger it was just school and tennis. When I watched the WTA tournaments, I thought it was on another level. Maybe I would tell myself that I would be in this place, she replied with a smile.

Iga Świątek will start competing in the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai on Tuesday, February 21. The first rival of the Polish woman will be Canadian Leylah Fernandez (37th WTA). The meeting starts no earlier than at 16:00 Polish time (19:00 in Dubai).
