A year ago they were schoolchildren. Now they are coming home in coffins after a “mission trip” in Ukraine. In Russia, the young dead men are hailed as heroes.
What the Russian boys actually thought before they died in a burning tank in Donetsk, a shattered armored vehicle in Kherson, a crashed helicopter outside Kyiv or in a ditch near Kharkiv, we will never know.
In fact, many of them should never have been there.
