Only 13 percent of our energy is renewable: far below the European average

The Nordic countries in particular are doing a lot better than our country. The impact on the EU average is large, but could have been greater. The best students in the European class are Iceland and Norway: two countries that are not members of the European Union and therefore have no impact on the EU average.

“The countries that score high often generate their energy largely with biomass or hydropower,” says Van Evercooren. “These are technologies that are difficult for us to use in our country due to geography. We mainly rely on sun and wind, in which our companies are investing heavily.”
