Online GP consultation now also available for children

Last Wednesday, Spreekuur.nl started with the first Dutch full online consultation with the GP for children from six months and young people. It is an extension of the service to adults, which has been offered since March this year. Children in the regions of Eemland (Amersfoort, Barneveld and environs) and Rijnmond (Rotterdam and environs) can initially use the service. Spreekuur.nl reports this.

“There is a great need for quick contact with the GP for non-urgent complaints for children and young people and the waiting times at the GP are long, especially in these times of corona. With this new service we create opportunities for children alone and parents with young children to quickly obtain a full online consultation from a general practitioner ”, says Dianne Jaspers, medical director of Huisartsen Eemland.

Children

Children from six months of age can contact GPs online via the Consultation Hour platform for complaints such as fever, skin complaints, falls / bumps / bruises, wounds and burns. In the evenings and weekends, this is only possible if it concerns urgent matters. At a later stage, earaches, sore throats, coughs, eye complaints and insect bites are also added. From the age of sixteen, the child can seek care themselves, until that age, the parent creates a Consultation Hour account for her or his child.

Location independent and personal care

With Spreekuur.nl, patients prepare the digital consultation themselves, by going through validated triage and anamnesis questions and by adding a photo or video. General practitioners who are affiliated with the GP practices in the region are then presented with this information in a clear manner via a digital system and can easily handle the consultation via chat, but also via video calling if desired. If there is a very urgent emergency, a patient is advised to call an emergency line. More than 1.1 million patients in the Netherlands now have access to the service and 9,000 consultations have been done.
