Oneco Networks Announces Major Reorganization and 150 Job Cuts Due to Lower Activity and Weaker Results

The telecommunications and assembly company Oneco Networks has initiated a major reorganization which means that several employees will have to leave. The company reports this in a message on its own website on Wednesday.

A total of 150 positions will be lost. There are currently around three thousand employees in the company.

Oneco Networks has 35 employees in Tromsø, according to accounting figures. The employees were informed about the reorganization on Wednesday.

– Difficult decision

It is currently unclear how the cuts will affect staffing at the Tromsø branch of the company. The director of the company believes it was impossible to avoid a reduction in staffing.

– All employees were informed on 3 January that an estimated 150 employees will be made redundant in the new organisation. This was a difficult decision to make, but like many others in the industry, we unfortunately cannot avoid staffing reductions to ensure future competitiveness and profitability, says managing director Petter Schive in the press release.

Schive believes that the loss of 150 jobs is partly solved through natural attrition. In addition, the company offers financial compensation to employees over the age of 62 who wish to retire early. This is done to ensure “the fewest possible redundancies”, says the director.

– The situation is demanding for many of our loyal colleagues and we are keen to carry out the best possible process to help those who are affected.

– Lower activity

The reason for the cuts is weaker results in 2023. Oneco points out that “high macroeconomic uncertainty contributes to less investment in telecommunications infrastructure”.

“Forecasts for 2024 show that the market will continue to be characterized by lower activity”, writes the company itself.

There are no separate accounts for Oneco Networks’ Tromsø department. The consolidated accounts for 2022 show an operating profit of NOK 165 million.
