“One or the other was going to have to die”

The son of the businessman shot to death in Vila Verde confessed today to the perpetrator of the crime, but stressed that his intention was only to “scare” his father, whom he accused of creating a climate of terror at home.

At the Braga Court, at the beginning of the trial, the 22-year-old defendant spoke of constant aggressions, insults and threats from his father to his mother, which ended up “left over” also for his children.

“When I tried to defend my mother, I also took it. It has always been very difficult to live with my father. And when he had alcohol, it was even worse, ”he reported, underlining the“ psychological saturation ”that was installed in the family.

On the day of the facts, on October 23, 2017, the defendant returned home in Moure, Vila Verde, with the damaged tractor, after having been farming a field, and was verbally scolded by his father, with insults.

The defendant said that he went to the house to get a gun to “scare” his father and that, on seeing him, he bent down to pick up an iron, saying he was going to kill him.

“I was going to scare him, he reacted, I happened to pull the trigger and fired,” he added.

In the process, the victim’s wife is also accused, who has accounted for a lifetime of abuse since she married in 1986.

“A marriage that always takes place, and the children are the same,” he said.

She said that, in the face of her husband’s aggressiveness, she had to sleep many nights “on the cover” and that she even ran away to France, but ended up returning home for fear of worse consequences, namely for her parents.

Regarding the shot made by the son, he said he was sure that he “did not want to do that, but with despair, it happened”.

“One or the other was going to have to die, it was going to be one or the other,” he said.

After the murder, the defendant disposed of the weapon and, together with her son, placed the victim’s body in a van, which the two ended up leaving abandoned in a field in Palmeira, Braga.

The body was not found until three days after the crime.

However, the woman had reported to GNR the alleged “disappearance” of her husband.

The victim’s son was not arrested until September 2018, because after the crime he left for France.

He remained in preventive detention, a coercive measure that has since been changed to house arrest.

The victim’s son is accused of committing a simple homicide crime aggravated by the use of a firearm, a crime of illegal possession of a weapon and a crime of simulated crime, in addition to two driving crimes without legal authorization.

As part of a joined process, he is still liable for extortion.

The victim’s wife is accused of simulated crime and illegal possession of a weapon.

Two victims of the victim, 24 and 29 years of age, who are the result of an extramarital relationship, are being assisted in the process, asking for compensation for the father’s death.
