One of the two Dutch evacuation planes in the region around Afghanistan is broken | Inland

It is not yet clear what exactly is wrong with the device. The Ministry of Defense speaks of a ‘technical defect’ and claims that no people have been in danger because of the defect. For the evacuation, the aircraft that were already there and other flights from partner countries are now being used.

“There is a very difficult situation around the airport. That will remain,” says outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigrid Kaag. “We are trying to get as many people in as possible and to get them on whatever flight.”

“We try to do everything we can to get as many people as possible out of there safely, just like all countries,” emphasizes outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte. “We help each other, that’s very important.”

Three times a day

The Netherlands wants to remove people by plane from Kabul about three times a day, Colonel Peter Tankink said on Wednesday, who is coordinating the evacuation from The Hague. The two C-130s are to form an air bridge between Afghanistan and a safe country in the region. From there, the evacuees are taken to the Netherlands with a larger aircraft.

First Dutch back

So far, only one flight from Afghanistan has arrived in the Netherlands. An evacuation plane containing 35 Dutch people landed at Schiphol on Wednesday evening after a delay of several hours around 11 p.m.
