Robert Lewandowski scores Poland’s goal against Spain. He’s one of those cases where there’s this one man on a team and then the rest. On the one hand, you expect everything and more from him. On the other hand, that has rarely been good for a team.

In the thousands of betting games that were circulating around during these euros, a great many had everything wrong on Saturday. France fails to turn a massive superiority against Hungary into a victory. Germany wins 4: 2 against Portugalwhich nobody expected, including me, as you can read. And Spain played around a bit weird like in the first game and gave the Poles a point as well. It could actually be tight for the big teams in Europe and the world between 2008 and 2012, with promotion to the last sixteen. Can relax Luis Enriques In any case, people won’t go into the last group game against Slovakia.

Goalscorer of Poland Incidentally, there was a certain against Spain Robert Lewandowski. Who else, many will ask now? Many rather superficial observers of this team will only know this player at all. Whenever a player stands tall in a team, it creates similar stories. Mostly they are offensive players and everyone expects that this same player will fix it. He often does, but it also creates complex problems. Not only when this one superstar is as special as, for example Zlatan Ibrahimovic or once Emmanuel Adebayor bei Togo.

“You can see such a phenomenon a bit in the run-up to Austria’s last group game against Ukraine. Marko Arnautovic is allowed to play again and suddenly all hope is with him.”
– Jürgen Pucher

Lewandowski, for example, complained about the lack of support from his colleagues after the first game against Slovakia. He wasn’t getting enough balls. He’s used to being supported by players of his format at FC Bayern. Certainly not ideal for the atmosphere in the team. Ibrahimovic regularly complained about his colleagues who, in his opinion, were not adequately endowed with skills. In other cases, such as Lionel Messi or Didier Drogba earlier with the Ivory Coast, this went as far as forming groups in the team, sometimes such cases even become a political issue. It is a Herculean task for any coach with such a constellation in the team.

You can see a bit of this phenomenon in the run-up to Austria’s last group game against Ukraine. Marko Arnautovic is allowed to play again and suddenly all hope is with him. Suddenly it is absolutely clear that he will be in the starting XI, which was by no means clear at the beginning of the tournament. He has to fix what has not worked so far. A peculiar dynamic with a touch of despair that arises there. Arnautovic is certainly one of the people who can make the difference on good days. But certainly not the only player in the Foda team with great individual class. The others now have to give interviews and say how important Arnautovic’s return is. He himself will be at least over-motivated, if not more. We’ll see if everything moves in the right direction on Monday.
