Prague The share of newly confirmed cases of covid-19 in the number of tests roughly tripled to 10.99 percent on Saturday compared to Friday. It is thus the highest since March 10, when the coronavirus began to spread in the Czech Republic. It follows from the data on the website of the Ministry of Health at 17:30.

The number of tests performed on Saturday fell by almost half to 2,365 compared to more than 4,300 on Friday. In contrast, the number of new cases rose by more than half to 260, the largest daily increase since April 8.
In the morning, the ministry reported a lower number of tests on Saturday and a higher share of cases in the number of tests, but updated the data in the afternoon.
Already Friday’s increase of 168 infected people exceeded the daily increase in cases of covid-19 in more than two months. So far, 125 infected people have been added to 5.30 pm on Sunday, similarly to Saturday during the same period. A record increase in the number of cases was recorded on Saturday. According to epidemiologists, the increase in newly proven cases of infection in recent days is due to testing in local outbreaks. On Friday, for example, hygienists started another comprehensive testing of OKD mining company workers at the ČSM-Sever Mine in Stonava in the Karviná region, where there is also another local focus at the ČSM-Jih Mine.
According to the Ministry, the highest share of newly confirmed cases of infection per capita is currently in the Karviná district. There are about 161 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. In the neighboring district of Frýdek-Místek, where the second highest incidence is, there are about 27 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, ie six times less than in the Karviná region. “There are 122 new cases in the Karviná region alone, yesterday (Saturday),” Health Minister Adam Vojtěch (for YES) told CNN Prima News on Sunday.
The Regional Hygiene Station in Ostrava has so far registered 85 new cases of infection in the Moravian-Silesian Region over the weekend. Almost all of them come from comprehensive testing at OKD in the Karviná region. However, there will certainly be more cases, because all the samples taken have not yet been processed, Petr Kopřivík from the hygiene station said on Sunday. Comprehensive testing of mine workers and their relatives is to continue until Tuesday. In total, over 3,000 people are to be tested.

Since March, when the first cases of coronavirus infection appeared in the Czech Republic, a total of 11,423 cases of covid-19 have been recorded in the Czech Republic as of 17:30 on Sundays, according to the Ministry. Most of those infected have already recovered from the disease, there are currently 3394 patients. There are now 117 people with covid-19 in hospitals.
On Sunday, the ministry revised the total number of people killed with covid-19 in its data. On Saturday, it was reported that the deaths had been 349 since the beginning of the epidemic, and three people died on Saturday. On Sunday, however, it reduced the death toll to 347, and according to current data, only one more died on Saturday.
