New York has declared a state of emergency because of the new Corona variant “Omikron”. There is also an alarm in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, that several passengers on a flight from South Africa are infected with the corona virus. Now all passengers are tested to find out whether they have been infected with the new Omikron variant.
This new mutation of the coronavirus is significantly more contagious than the delta variant. The vaccine manufacturers Pfizer and Moderna expect to be able to adapt their vaccine to Omikron in 100 days. According to the European Medicines Agency, it is not yet clear whether this is necessary.
Stock exchanges collapse
Numerous countries have imposed strict travel restrictions to prevent the omicron mutation from spreading. The WHO now classified the Omicron mentioned variant as “worrying”. The stock exchanges were afraid of the far-reaching economic consequences of the new variant collapse worldwide.
