Omicron Ferocious, Covid-19 Cases in the US Reach 1 Million / Day!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The United States (US) has reported another record number of daily cases of Covid-19. Data from Johns Hopkins University (JHU) recorded that there were 1,082,549 daily cases as of Monday (3/1/2022) local time.

According to CNBC International, the rise in daily cases was fueled by the highly contagious variant of the omicron. A seven-day average, new cases of Covid in the US hit a record 363,592 per day, according to JHU data.

The new daily tally brings the total number of confirmed cases in the US since the start of the pandemic to 56,189,547. In total, the virus has caused 827,748 deaths across the United States.

JHU data shows that the states with the highest number of new confirmed cases above 100,000 people are Maryland, Alabama, Delaware, New Jersey, and Ohio.

Data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) previously said the Omicron variant was estimated to be 58.6% more than the coronavirus variant circulating in the United States on December 25, 2021.

Anthony Fauci, a leading infectious disease expert from the US, had also said that his country would face the danger of a spike in hospitalizations for Covid-19 patients. This is because a new wave of cases is expected to emerge even though initial data shows the Omicron variant is not too severe.

Last week, the CDC also reduced the recommended isolation period for people with asymptomatic Covid-19 to five days, down from 10 days. The policy does not require testing to confirm that someone is no longer infectious before they return to work or socializing.
