Olympics, sailing: Camboni in the medal zone

The blue sees the podium and the medal that Italy has been missing for 13 years: but it will be a battle. There are three athletes in 5 points. On Saturday the titles are assigned

Mattia Camboni closes the twelfth qualifying regatta in third place and enters the Medal Race virtually on the podium of the sailboards, but three athletes are collected in just 5 points and only two of them will go on the podium. In the lead the Dutch sailor Baldoe (33 points) in second place the French Goyard (52), third the blue Camboni at 54 and fourth the Polish Myszka (57). The gold is therefore already assigned, but the other positions are all to be defined. In fact it will result in a three-way battle for the other two medals. The first 10 of the classification enter the Medal Race and the score assigned is double the qualification regattas. What penalized Mattia seems to have been the strong wind conditions he was not used to at Enoshima, where there were lighter airs, the ones that should still be on Saturday. Camboni did well in race number 11 where he placed an excellent third place, while in the last race he started very late (he was 21st at the first mark), but he was very good at recovering (at one point he was also 4th overall) and with two very intense last sides he managed to overtake the Polish athlete first and then to approach the Frenchman. So the battle for silver is still on. The appointment with the Medal Race is set for Saturday afternoon around 15.30 local time (8.30 in Italy). Marta Maggetti also enters the Medal in an excellent position (4), but too far from the podium to get to the medal.

Great Tita Banti

After 6 races still at the top of the ranking of flying catamarans Tita-Banti who won another race (3 out of 6) has a fifth as worst result and have three points ahead of the pair of Team Gb Gimson Burnet (at 11) further back at 19 are the Germans Kohlhoff-Stuhlemmer. In short, in the middle of the qualifying tests the Azzurri are firmly in the lead, to consider that in the regattas they have done in Enoshima in recent years they have never dropped from the podium. Their Medal Race is scheduled for next week.
