The corona crisis means that the final qualification phase for the ice hockey tournament at the 2022 Winter Olympics will be postponed by a year.
Austria’s national team will therefore only be hosting its mini-tournament in Bratislava from August 26-29, 2021. Hosts Slovakia, Belarus and Poland are waiting there as opponents for a ticket to the games in Beijing.
The international association IIHF will submit this proposal to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for confirmation.
“Due to the current situation in international sport, it was to be assumed that this qualification tournament would not be able to take place this summer. This makes 2021 the important year with two major goals, the postponement by one year will not change anything,” comments President Mag Gernot Mittendorfer the current IIHF decision
