Italian athlete Massimo Stano became the Olympic champion in the 20 km walk at the Tokyo Olympics. The silver on the track in Sapporo was won by the home team Koki Ikeda, after the bronze another Japanese Tošikazu Yamaniši won.
Slovak representative Miroslav Úradník came to the finish line in 41st place. He wrote down the time 1:29:25.
The victorious Stano, together with a pair of Japanese, disengaged from the leading group about three kilometers before the finish. The decisive attack on the gold came from him a kilometer before the finish line and none of the domestic pedestrians was able to react.
