West Ham took a heavy blow in their search for Jesse Lingard after Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke of his desire to keep the midfielder in shape next season.

Lingard has been revitalized at West Ham since joining the loaned club until the end of the campaign in January.

The 28-year-old has scored eight goals and provided three assists in just nine Premier League games for the fourth-ranked Hammers in their quest to qualify for the Champions League.

Lingard has scored eight goals and provided three assists in just nine West Ham league games.

His incredible form in the London Stadium has reminded him of the England fold and he is now firmly on the hunt for a spot on Gareth Southgate’s team this summer.

Lingard has one year left on his contract with United and West Ham expects his loan change to be permanent this summer.

However, speaking on Wednesday, Solskjaer said he wanted the midfielder to be part of his plans for next season.

“Jesse has been brilliant since he left,” he said before the Red Devils’ Europa League quarter-final second leg against Granada.

The 28-year-old is back in England after his impressive form at the London Stadium.

“We could have kept him because he had a role to play. Not once did he cause me a problem and he deserved the opportunity to play more football.

Of course we want it back. I hope it goes to the Euros. ‘

Lingard’s future at Old Trafford looked bleak having appeared three times for United this season without any of those Premier League appearances.

However, the fiery midfielder now seems ready to make a decision on whether or not he will stay at his childhood club.

Lingard has so much to consider about his future at United that he has barely appeared there this season.
