Former FC Utrecht striker Kevin Vandenbergh concluded a ‘transfer’ one week before his 37th birthday. The thirteen-time Red Devil goes to work with the amateurs of Ramsel FC, which plays in the Fourth Provincial of Belgium.
Vandenbergh’s new employer has announced the news via Facebook. The striker comes over from SC Aarschot – another amateur club from Belgium – and wants to ‘help build a new team and form a good group in this new project’, it sounds. “See where we end up from there.”
The son of World Cup hero Erwin Vandenbergh made a career with Westerlo and Racing Genk after the turn of the century and made his debut with the national team in 2005. FC Utrecht even put 1.6 million euros on the table for him in 2007 – a club record at the time – but the collaboration was not a success. After a rental period at Germinal Beerschot, Vandenbergh left for Eupen. Via KV Mechelen and Westerlo he descended to the amateur divisions.
