OH Leuven rents Thibault Vlietinck from Club Brugge

Oud-Heverlee Leuven has an agreement to lease Thibault Vlietinck (22) from Club Brugge. The right winger will probably sign on Wednesday and can make his debut in Genk on Saturday.

Thibault Vlietinck was one of the pleasant discoveries in Club’s Champions League campaign in the 2018-2019 season. Trainer Ivan Leko started him in Dortmund where he surprised friends and foes with his rushes on the right flank. Some Bundesliga scouts were on his track.

Last season, however, it became quiet (more) around Vlietinck. Trainer Philippe Clement insisted he stay with the core, but in all competitions combined he only competed in seven games. This summer, Vlietinck was told that he no longer fit Club’s immediate future plans. He had been training separately from the squad for a few weeks, awaiting departure.

Oud-Heverlee Leuven reached an agreement with Club Brugge about a rent and has also agreed with the player. The transition would be finalized on Wednesday.

The people from Leuven have only known for a week and a half that they will play in 1A this season and need reinforcement in all lines. On Monday evening against Eupen, four players were injured, including taste maker Mathieu Maertens. On Saturday, Thibault Vlietinck can immediately celebrate his debut on the field of Racing Genk.
