An electoral alliance in Turkey that opposes the ruling Justice and Development Party and its leader, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, officially announced, on Monday evening, the selection of the head of its largest party as a joint candidate for the coalition in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections that the country will witness on May 14, after A delay that was repeated more than once as a result of the earthquake that struck the country last month and prevented the coalition that includes the “Republican People” party, the Islamic “Happiness”, “Democracy and Construction”, “Future” and “Democratic”, from announcing the name of its candidate, which caused the withdrawal of the “Party” The good” from him temporarily at the end of last week, before returning to him today, on a new condition.

The opposition coalition, which is widely known as the “Table of Six”, chose Kemal Kilicdaroglu, head of the “Republican People’s Party”, which is the main opposition party in Turkey, as a presidential candidate for the coalition at the end of its meeting that was held at the headquarters of the “Happiness” party, which lasted for about five hours between Four o’clock in the afternoon, according to local time, and nine o’clock in the evening, in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

This meeting, which was attended by all the leaders of the six parties, was preceded by two separate meetings that brought together Kilicdaroglu with Miral Akchenar, leader of the right-wing “good” party, also known as the “good” party, who also met with the mayors of Istanbul and Ankara, Akram Imamoglu and Mansur Yavash, before meeting with the head of the “Republican People’s Party”. And it was decided to return again to the “six-party table”, provided that Imamoglu and Yavash were chosen as vice-presidents in the event that the coalition candidate won the presidency.

Gursal Tekin, a member of the Turkish parliament representing the “Republican People’s Party”, told Al Arabiya.net: “In our capacity as the Republican People’s Party and the electoral alliance that was established to rebuild democracy in the country, our presidential candidate is the leader of our party, Kilicdaroglu, and he will have the support of the democratic forces for his election as president.” Turkey’s thirteenth.

The well-known MP added, “The opposition six-party alliance does not aim to defeat the current Turkish president, but rather is trying to save the country from his corrupt regime,” pointing out that “the recent opinion polls that show the rise of the ruling party’s popularity do not seem logical, especially after the destruction of ten Turkish states as a result of The earthquake that hit the region last month.

And he continued, “There are survivors of the earthquake who do not have a shelter or a tent yet,” referring to what he called the “failure” of the government and the concerned authorities in dealing with the repercussions of the natural disaster that befell the country on the sixth of last February, revealing that “the survivors Because of the earthquake in some areas, they are facing a problem in securing drinking water, and these are all challenges that will contribute to determining the winner of the next May 14 elections.”

The “Six-Party Table” alliance is trying to overcome internal differences among the parties that make up it, which are problems that the Turkish president is exploiting to raise his popularity among his supporters about two and a half months before the date of the presidential and parliamentary elections, which also coincides with the centenary of the founding of the “Republic”.

Despite the ongoing talks between the “Republican People’s Party”, which is the main engine of the “six-party table” and the pro-Kurdish “People’s Democratic Party”, the latter has not yet joined the electoral alliance that is trying to overthrow the ruling party in the upcoming elections as a result of the “good” party’s refusal to cooperate with it. The pro-Kurdish party, which agrees with the ruling party on its description as a political front for the PKK.

And two opinion polls, one of which was conducted last week by the “Metropol” public research institution, showed that the ruling party defeated its opponents despite the natural disaster that befell the country, as a devastating earthquake early last month struck several states in southern Turkey, killing tens of thousands and leaving great damage to the infrastructure. in those areas.
